The bags have been out for weeks; packed, unpacked and packed again. What to take, what not to take. Will it be really cold in Rome? or colder in Paris? what about Seefeld? does it snow in Munich? Really it's all too much. The kids are preparing for a typical Austrian winter not ever knowing the impact of a northern hemisphere winter.
Its exactly one week before we get on that plane and jet off for a 6 week (for dad) and a 10 week (for everyone else) winter wonderland odyssey to Europe. Starting in Rome then Florence, Nice, Toulouse, Cahors to Saint Cyprien then Paris, Munich and Seefeld in Austria for a white Christmas. "What do they eat for Christmas in Austria?" has been a constant point of discussion.
After Christmas dad flies home via Dubai for a few days and mum and kids go on to London for a few extra weeks in the UK.
One week out and there is so much to do. The goldfish's tank needs cleaning, the sheep need hay (thankfully Leroy has been shorn) the yard needs mowing, the house cleaning, the guinea pigs (which are now free-range) need stable shelter. First world problems, I know, right!
This is the start of my first attempt at blogging so if you take the time to follow our Little European Odyssey you will undoubtedly note the quality and content improve (?) the snaps more engaging and the overall vibe settle to a quality, relaxed, holiday sort of vibe. Just in time to return to work no doubt.
So, in the words of Virginia Trioli this morning in response to the Trump election, "buckle up; this is going to be one hell of a ride"
